Stephen Henry Yturralde passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023. Stephen was born on July 26, 1952 in Calexico, CA, to Barbara and Henry Yturralde. One of five siblings, Stephen spent time as a young man working in his father’s security company and enjoyed making the trip to San Diego to go scuba diving.
In the early 1970’s, Stephen was stationed in Germany, serving in the U.S. Army during the end of the Vietnam era. He later entered the Phoenix Regional Police Academy, joined the National Guard and earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. Stephen’s dedication to his country and community was evident throughout his 20 years with the National Guard and as he became a Police Officer for the City of Scottsdale. During his time in law enforcement, a career spanning 31 years, Stephen enjoyed getting to know the people in his district and participating in such programs as Shop with a Cop. Following his retirement as a Police Lieutenant, Stephen worked in the fraud department for a large financial institution and started his own computer repair company. Stephen and wife, Linda, moved to Tucson in 2017.
Stephen enjoyed the simple things in life. Family was of greatest importance, followed by his love of playing, coaching and watching soccer. Stephen also enjoyed golfing, traveling, hiking, photography, archery and going to the movies. A dedicated protector of his family, community and country, Stephen had a special way of connecting with people and forming lasting friendships.
