Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Tom graduated from Holy Spirit High school and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon honorably serving his country, Tom went to work for Lockheed where he oversaw communications contracts all over Europe for 13 years and spoke fluent German. After returning to the United States with his family, he retired from Lockheed and went into Insurance. After leaving Farmers Insurance in 1987, Tom soon opened up a successful Paint and Body shop that he considered his home away from home. Even in his seventies, he still worked six days a week, enjoyed working out and golfing with friends. Tom was a passionate football fan, coached TYF football for 16 years and loved every moment of it. Tom is preceded in death by his son, Thomas P. Burns; parents, Thomas and Helene Burns; brother, Michael T. Burns and nephew, Thomas "Tim" Burns. Tom was survived by his wife, Karen Burns; sisters and brother Rita Bellanger, Helene Krause and John Burns; son, Michael Burns; daughter and son in law Rafael and Bianca Guerrero and three beautiful grandchildren, Emma, Rafael and Thomas. He was a man's man, a proud Marine, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. We'll miss his east-coast wit and an Irish temper. He was loved by all that knew him and will be missed dearly. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Burial at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.
