He was born on February 16, 1921, in El Paso, Texas to John Wilson and Elsie Hawkins Jarrell. He moved to Grays Harbor in 1930 where he attended school and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940 and served aboard the U.S. Saratoga during World War II and was at Bikini when the “Sara” was sunk by the atom bomb in 1946.
He and Dorothy J. Baughn were married in Olympia in 1945. He operated a Shell Service Station on the west side of Olympia from 1946-1950, then went to work at the Olympia Brewing Co. until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1945, and the Olympia Genealogy Society. He enjoyed trailering and genealogical research.
Mr. Jarrell is survived by a daughter Nancy Ann Hildermon, Kaslo, B.C., Canada; a daughter Marilee J. Austin, Olympia; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; Brother John Wilson Jarrell in Louisiana,and his brother John Wilson Jarrell in Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his wife, and his son, Dennis, At his request, there will be no funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Hospice.
