

Born November 10, 1928 on the family farm to Henry and Magdalena (Fabrizius) Dietz, he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Trego Center. He attended Wilcox School, rural Trego County and graduated in 1948 from Trego Community High School.
Al moved to Olympia where he met his bride Marjorie (Thompson) and they married February 11, 1950. In March 1952, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Seabees. After the Navy, he returned to Olympia where he worked as a carpenter and built homes. He was later hired by the Olympia Brewing Company where, after 28 years, he retired from the Engineering Department in 1988. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and loved spending time with his family, camping, and traveling.
Survivors include son Rod Dietz, daughter Marlys (Brad) Swanson; grandchildren Michael (Alisa) Dietz, Megan (Will) Hart, Daniel Swanson and Joshua Swanson; and brother Dwayne (Janet) Dietz of Billings, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; his parents; three sisters, Martha Young, Rachel Bickerstaff and Esther Deines; two brothers Howard Dietz and Milton Dietz; two sisters and one brother who died in infancy; and granddaughter Lauren Swanson.
Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Olympia, WA on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00PM. More information can be found on the Mills and Mills website.
