Barney graduated from Rochester High School in 1942. He joined the Navy in 1942 and received an honorable discharge in 1944. He met his wife Hilde at the Boeing Wing Factory in Chehalis and they were married December 25, 1946. Barney was preceded in death by his wife Hilde, his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by 2 sisters Theresa Ames and Bertha Cooper. He is also survived by his five children: Sandra Haury (Darryl), Susan Wertz, David (Alana), Loren (Karen), and Brad. He also is survived by 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Barney worked for the Olympia Brewing Co. for 35 years. He loved his family, especially watching great-grandchildren swim and pick vegetables from his garden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and grew a great garden every year that fed his entire family.
There will be a memorial service for Barney on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Scott Lake Community Cent at 1:00 pm. The family asks that donations be made to St. Michael Parish, P.O. Box 766, Olympia, WA 98507 or to the Tumwater High School Athletics, 700 Israel Rd SW, Tumwater 98501 in lieu of flowers.
