David Douglas Crowell, born on June 4, 1954, bid farewell to this world on April 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his cherished family and friends at St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia, Washington, after a courageous battle with cancer.
David lived a life marked by bravery, love, and a profound commitment to his family and country. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his devoted wife, DongHee, loving daughters Melissa (m. Steven Zimmermann) and Sara, granddaughters Grace Garrett and Savannah Zimmermann, his dear sister Gloria Yates, and his treasured brothers Mike and Robert. David was the second eldest child of Frank and Ruby Crowell, a testament to a family deeply rooted in love and strength.
David's journey began in Radcliff, Kentucky, culminating with his graduation from North Hardin High School in 1972. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Western Kentucky University in 1979, followed by Master’s Degrees from the University of Southern California in Health Systems Management in 1985 and Health Services from Baylor University in 1989. David's illustrious career spanned over 20 years in the United States Army as a Healthcare Administrator. His assignments took him to various parts of the globe, from distant lands such as South Korea and Germany, to the less glamorous corners of Fort Polk, Louisiana. Regardless of where he was stationed, David embraced the opportunity to serve wholeheartedly. His dedication to duty echoed through generations, inspiring both of his daughters to follow in his footsteps and join the military. Their commitment stands as a testament to David's profound influence as a father and a leader.
Beyond his military service, David was a man of many passions. He savored the simple joys of life, whether it was enjoying a good German beer, showcasing his mastery on the grill, skunking an unfortunate competitor in a game of cribbage, or simply relishing in the tranquility of a slow-paced existence with his beloved DongHee by his side. Their love story, which began in Seoul, South Korea, reflects the power of love and the beauty of two souls finding solace in each other's embrace.
As we bid farewell to David, let us remember him not for the battles he fought, but for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him friend, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Rest easy, dear David, for your journey may have come to an end, but your memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
