Debra Kay “Debbie” Blain was born in Torrance, California as the youngest of four children. When Debbie was three, her family moved to Orange County where she attended Immanuel Lutheran School. Growing up in a close-knit, loving family, within a few miles of Disneyland, Debbie’s most favorite place, made for a very happy childhood.
After graduating from Orange High School, she attended Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, California majoring in Early Childhood Education. Her love of children led her to a career as a preschool teacher, eventually becoming School Director. She truly loved giving ‘her’ kids the very best, and most FUN, beginning to their education!
Debbie was a devoted daughter to Floyd and Roberta “Betty” Dunham and moved to Washington State in the early ’80s to help care for her ailing mother. After her mom’s passing, she returned to California and her beloved kiddos as a preschool director in the Santa Cruz area, where she lived with her big sister, niece, nephew, and Inky the cat. She became an active member of The Coastlands Aptos Foursquare Church where she was invited to join a team to plant a new church in Santa Clara. It was there that she met the love of her life, Charlie Blain, during a meeting to plan the church’s New Year’s Eve party.
Charlie and Debbie married on December 22, 1990, and with great joy, welcomed their daughter Jenna to complete their family the following December. They moved to Washington State in 1994 where they enjoyed being close to Debbie’s extended family.
Together with Charlie, Debbie was a devoted foster parent. Her heart for teenage girls led them to provide a safe, loving, and encouraging home to many over the past several years.
Debbie was known for her infectious smile and warm welcome for all who met her. She was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, square dancer, Disney devotee, serious board game player, camp song singer, teapot collector, cat lover, and breast cancer survivor! But mostly, she was a lover of Jesus! Debbie's devotion to the Lord was apparent to all who had the privilege to know and love her and we all take comfort in the sure knowledge that she is home with Him now.
Debbie is survived by her husband Charlie, daughter Jenna, sister Patti, brothers Buddy (sister-in-law Karen) and Douglas (sister-in-law Kris), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
