

He was born at home on May 12, 1930 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Wilmer and Alice Vest.
LTC Vest served 22-years on active duty in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Airborne Ranger, Instructor, and Battalion Commander, with one combat tour in Korea (1964-5) and two in Vietnam (1961-2, 1967-8).
His second 22-year career was in real estate, where he worked with Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty, and served as President of both the Olympia Multiple Listing Real Estate Club (1976) and the Olympia/Thurston County Board of Realtors (1983).
Don continued working for an additional 12-years at the Washington State Capital where he served on the senate security team.
Don was an avid member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, enjoyed singing with both the Westwood and Olympia First Baptist Church choirs, as well as the Olympia Puget Sounders Barbershop Chorus.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margie Vest; 4 children, Pamela Vest (Ken Conte), Donald Vest, Jr. (Laura), Carol Cox (Corey), and David Vest (Petra); a sister, Sharon Parpart (Mark); 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, with nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to count.
Don was preceded in death by his eldest son William, nine siblings: William, Virginia, Emma, Richard, Leonard, Leroy, Barbara, Wilma, and Marion, as well as both parents.
Services will be held at Mills & Mills, 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, WA 98512-7376 on Saturday, October 20, 2018, with visitations from noon to 2:00 PM, the memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
