Floyd Augustus Gray, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025. Born in Walton, New York, he grew up working on the Family farm and later answered the call to serve in the U.S. Army in 1950. His military career spanned the Korean and Vietnam Wars, during which he earned the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters for valor. He retired as a First Sergeant after a distinguished career marked by service and leadership.
While stationed in Germany, Floyd met and married Appolonia Soldner. Together, they raised three children—Floyd G., Lorna, and Tommy—while stationed at various posts across the United States. In 1974, after decades of service, Floyd retired in Yelm, Washington, where he and Appolonia began a new chapter of life.
In retirement, the couple founded Gray’s Greenhouse, a venture that reflected their dedication and hard work. When he wasn’t tending plants, Floyd enjoyed fishing and the quiet comfort of his front porch.
Floyd is survived by his children, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His memory will live on in their hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park. He will be laid to rest in the Garden of Honor.
