Franklin G. “Frank” Caruso passed away on September 8th in Lincoln City, Oregon. His big heart just gave out after 8 lovely days with family and friends at his favorite place on earth. He was 80 years old. Frank was born in Tacoma on April 30th, 1936 to George and Evelyn Caruso. He moved to Olympia at an early age and put down roots in this community. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1955 and went on to Willamette University to play baseball, study, and form many deep friendships with his Sigma Chi brothers. After four years of college, he was drafted and spent most of his army stint in Germany, where he traveled all over Europe playing baseball.
Frank met and married Carolyn DeBoer when he received his discharge from the army in 1962. They were married for 54 years and had one daughter, Tracy. He worked for the Olympia Brewing Company for many years, mostly as a tour guide, retiring in 1998. Frank is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter Tracy and son-in-law Mike Evans, his grandchildren, Carly (and Mario) Luengo of Great Falls, MT and Craig Evans, Olympia, his sister, Carolyn Ann Caruso of Olympia and many, many friends.
He was an avid sports fan with special emphasis on baseball. He loved following his favorite teams (Mariners, Seahawks, Packers, Braves, Cubs, Huskies, and many more). He loved to collect sports memorabilia and had many collecting buddies throughout the country. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17th, at 11:00 am at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
