Gary Michael Smith age 59 of Gresham, Oregon passed away on January 21, 2019. He was born in Olympia, Washington on May 21, 1959. He was the grandson of Charles Smith, long time Olympia business owner and Amanda Smith, former mayor of Olympia.
Gary graduated from Bellevue Christian high school in 1977 and studied at Bellevue Community College from 1978 - 1979. His interest in security work led him to accept a position with Panorama City where he became chief of security.
He moved to Portland Oregon in 2009 and accepted a position with the fire watch division of DePaul Industries as division lead officer for security, until forced to retire due to health issues.
He started a company called "Get the Point Knives" and sold knives of all sizes to convenience stores and at gun and knife shows throughout the Portland area. The business was doing very well but once again his failing health forced him to discontinue the business.
Gary had a great sense of humor, a big heart and a smile that lit up the room. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an accomplished skier, loved fishing, bird hunting and shopping for and collecting antiques.
He is survived by his son Christopher Michael Smith of Lacey Washington, his father Terry Smith of Snohomish Washington and his sister Gail Smith of Phoenix Arizona.
