Harry “Curly” John Edwards, of Olympia Washington, passed away on July 5th 2024. He was born on August 2nd 1928 in Bennington, Vermont to parents William Edwards and Elizabeth Kelley and grew up near Long Island Sound.
In 1951 he was serving in the Connecticut National Guard when he was drafted for the Korean War, where he served with the 999th Field Artillery.
After the war, Curly resided in Tenino WA with his growing family and children: Richard (1955), Carolee (1957), and Robert (1963). He served many years as a police officer on the Tumwater Police Force where the family moved in 1967.
After retiring from the police force, he and Lola became snow birds for more than a decade, traveling in their 5th wheel from Washington to Arizona. He and Lola celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001 and permanently settled in Arizona. Lola died in 2002.
In 2019, he decided to move back up to Tumwater, where he lived independently until about 2023.
Curly loved model railroading, gardening, and remodeling, and continued all three of these until about a year before he passed away. Until that time he lived a very active life.
Curly will be laid to rest with Lola at Forest Grove Cemetery in Tenino with military honors, and will be deeply missed.
