Howard Tobias Coblentz passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at age 74, surrounded by his loving family. He battled pancreatic cancer for two and a half years when he was only given three months to live. He used to joke with his doctor that he was going to make her famous by beating the odds.
Howard was born in Siquirres, Limon, Costa Rica to Felix Isaac Coblentz and Anais Barrantes Guerrero on August 11, 1948. He graduated from Hollywood High School, received a Bachelor’s from Cal State L.A., a Master’s from USC and Juris Doctorate from American College of Law, all while working full time. He had many career accomplishments including law enforcement, audits and investigation, state government, immigration adjudicator, business owner, legal advisor and advocate. In his later years, he excelled in genealogy research and helped many find their families. He published a book on the Coblentz family lineage with the largest family tree which encompassed family on every continent.
Howard was passionate about his family above all else. He loved music, dancing, fishing, joking, cooking, teaching, and traveling. People always gravitated towards him and felt comfortable seeking his advice and counsel. He held an open heart for the underdog and always tried to address the injustices in life.
Howard’s greatest legacy is the love he gifted to his wife and daughters.
Howard is survived by his wife, Yvette; four daughters, Eva, Adriane, Natalie and Karla; four grandchildren, Aaron, Elizabeth, Carlos and Luis; his brother Douglas; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
