James Oran Johnson died on January 2, 2024 at the age of 82, in Lacey Washington following a sudden decline in health. Jim was a devoted husband to his wife Nancy, and a loving father to his sons, Fr. James Jr., Dave (Christy), and Mike (Jennifer). He adored his grandchildren Jared, Bryce, Luke, Cole, and Lila.
Born in Seattle in 1941, he was the son of Isabelle and Louis B. (Johnny) Johnson. He grew up in Napavine, Washington and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in in business administration. In 1970, Jim took a position as a founding staff member at the Evergreen State College eventually becoming Director of Computer Services, retiring in 1997.
Jim will be remembered for his big heart, bright smile, gregarious laugh, and the way he cared for others. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral Mass will be held for Jim at Sacred Heart Parish in Lacey, WA on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
