Kevin Batiste Clinton, lovingly known as “Flash” and “Papa,” passed away March 7, 2026, at the age of 65. He was born March 13, 1960, in Merced, California.
Kevin lived a life defined by courage, service, and unwavering love for his family. Before his military career, he worked as a deep-sea fisherman in the Bering Sea, an especially remarkable feat considering he did not know how to swim. He also spent time fighting wildfires in Yellowstone National Park, demonstrating early on the bravery and resilience that would define his life.
Kevin proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he developed the discipline, strength, and leadership that carried through every chapter of his life. Following his military service, he continued to give back to his community as a juvenile corrections officer, where he was respected for his fairness, strength, and commitment to guiding others.
Known for his quick wit, humor, and commanding presence, Kevin left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a man of many talents and passions. As a young man, he was a standout athlete at Olympia High School in the late 1970s, excelling in football, baseball, basketball, track, boxing, soccer, wrestling, and weightlifting. His athleticism extended into martial arts, where he earned a black belt in Kung Fu Karate and a brown belt in Judo, alongside his military hand-to-hand combat training. His strength and skill were legendary even knocking out a Golden Gloves boxing champion at one point.
Kevin’s love for sports carried into his role as a devoted father. He coached his children in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and self-defense, never hesitating to coach his daughter alongside the boys. He created unforgettable memories, from playing in the backyard to building a miniature town where his children would respond to simulated fire emergencies. His creativity and imagination brought endless joy to his family, especially during the Fourth of July, when he staged elaborate backyard “battles” complete with firecrackers, bottle rockets, and repainted, customized toy vehicles with working lights and sirens.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and exploring places like Yellowstone. He also found joy in building model airplanes and boats. Kevin had a passion for music and was known to play it loud and proud, sometimes loud enough to draw the attention of the neighbors and even the police. He also had a special love for animals, especially dogs and cats, and was rarely seen without his loyal dog, Luke, by his side. Above all, Kevin cherished his family. His grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa,” brought him immense pride and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ardis Clinton Jr.; mother, Shirley Ann Williams; son, Justin Clinton; and brother, Ardis Clinton III.
Kevin is survived by his children, Cassandra (Andrew) Topasna and Anthony Clinton; partner, Toni; former spouse, Kim Clinton; siblings, Robin Clinton, Michelle Clinton, Crystal Scull, and Denise Watts; his beloved grandchildren, Colton, Haylee, Natasha, Nikolai, Christov, Andrew Jr., Amiya, and Everlee, along with many extended family members and loved ones.
Kevin will be remembered for his strength, humor, discipline, and deep love for those around him. His legacy of service, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family will live on in all who knew him.
A military service will be held on April 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery.
