Mary Elizabeth Elliott was born on August 27, 1959, to Leon and Jeanette Elliott. She joined her brothers, Michael Leon and Bill Owen. Her sister, Patricia Jane, was born in September 1964. In her younger years, Mary attended the Vancouver School for the Blind and then Morningside Academy. As a teenager, she attended Capital High School, graduating with an honorary diploma in 1981.
After high school, Mary lived in group homes with other disabled adults. Most notably, she lived at the Cedar Apartments in Montesano for almost 30 years. She lived a full life at Cedar. The staff became part of our family. They brought her, and attended, family gatherings for Christmas, 4th of July, and other occasions. Donna Howe and Betty Ackley were the most frequent caregivers at family events. They remembered the family on birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmases with cards or small gifts. They hosted parties at Cedar that family was welcome to attend. They took Mary shopping, out to lunch, and to get her favored chocolate milkshakes.
Mary was always a happy person, content to spend time with her many dolls and decks of cards. She loved music and was an avid fan on Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw on Saturday nights. Mary loved family gatherings and especially enjoyed her niece, KC, and nephews Steven, Ken, Brian, Shawn, and Tony. Everyone who knew Mary will miss the innocent joy she brought to every visit.
Mary passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at Lacey Acute Care Center, surrounded by her beloved dolls. She is survived by her brother Mike and his wife Vicki, and sister Patty and her husband Doug.
We are hosting a very informal service at Mills & Mills, graveside, on Friday August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Mary will be laid to rest with our parents, you are welcome to attend.
