

Muriel Jane “Mimi” Swanson (née Bryant), age 88, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, in Olympia, Washington. Born on June 12, 1937, in Centralia, Washington, Muriel lived a life rich with creativity, faith, and love for her family and community.
A proud graduate of Olympia High School’s Class of 1954, She went on to graduate from Golden State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was honored as a Diplomate by the International Association of Christian Clinical Counselors in 1982. She continued her studies at Golden State University and earned her Doctorate in Philosophy, with an emphasis in psychology, in 1983. Muriel remained deeply connected to the region throughout her life. She was known for her artistic spirit and generous heart. As a gifted painter and teacher, she shared her passion for art by teaching painting classes to others. Her brushstrokes told stories that words could not capture—each canvas a reflection of her vibrant imagination and deep appreciation for beauty.
Muriel’s talents extended beyond the easel. She had a lifelong love for arts and crafts and was an avid knitter. Whether creating something new or guiding others in their own creative journeys, she brought warmth and joy to every endeavor. Her home was often filled with handmade treasures that reflected her care and attention to detail.
Traveling with friends brought Muriel great happiness. These adventures were more than just trips they were opportunities to connect, explore, and celebrate life’s wonders. Her zest for life made her the spark that ignited joy in every gathering.
Muriel was deeply rooted in her faith and found spiritual nourishment in all aspects of her life. Her belief system guided her actions and offered strength throughout her life time.
She was a devoted wife to Gerald “Jerry” Swanson, who preceded her in death. Together they built a loving family that continues to carry forward their legacy of kindness and connection.
Muriel is lovingly remembered by her children: Steve and his wife Heidi; Vic and his wife Michelle; Pat; Jeryl and her husband David. She was a cherished grandmother to Tyler and his partner Jenny;, Michael and his wife Cheri; Victor Jr.; Nick and his wife Sarah; Luke and his fiancée Paxton; Marcus and his wife Ashley; Matt and his wife Carmen; Lacy and her fiancé Robin; and Ryan and his fiancée Paige.
Her legacy lives on through her great-grandchildren: Penny, Kindrick, Kian, Sasha, Luc, Aiden, Landon, and Greyson.
Muriel was also preceded in death by her parents Georgena Eddy Bryant and Patrick Bryant.
To those who knew her—as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend or teacher—Muriel was a source of light whose presence brought comfort and inspiration. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
May Muriel’s enduring spirit bring peace to those who mourn her passing and joy to those who remember the love she gave so freely.
