Oddfrid Odda Marie Thorn-Olsen

Odda passed on peacefully in her sleep Friday afternoon, leaving her family and friends with fond memories of her wonderful contributions to their lives. Kristiansand, Norway was her birthplace and where she spent her childhood. It was there that she met and married Kaare Thorn-Olsen. Together, they made their home in several countries worldwide before settling with their three daughters in Alamo, CA in 1962. When the girls were older, the family moved to Southern California for a few years, before Odda and Kaare’s final move in 1982 to Olympia, WA.

Causing great sorrow, Odda’s oldest daughter, Karen, left this earth in 1981, and her husband, Kaare, passed away in 1999. Odda leaves behind two daughters, Ingrid Sechrist and husband Steve of Whidbey Island, WA and Lisa Schaffer and husband Jim of Huntington Beach, CA; her grandchildren, Eric Gustafson, Mark Glass, and Kara Schaffer; and, Odda’s first great-grandchild, born just last month, Matias Glass. George the cat, a large, green eyed, white, and fluffy loyal companion, is also greatly saddened by Odda’s passing.

The family members wish to express their warm appreciation to Jan Hillman for her loving care and friendship, as well as to Odda’s wonderful neighbors, whose support and help over the years is undeniable.

One of Odda’s favorite activities was tending to her yard, which was always beautifully arranged with large trees and many flowering plants. Daffodils, Tulips, and Irises were among her favorites. Flowers brought much joy to Odda and in her remembrance, they would be most welcomed.

Odda’s passing reminds us how people we love can suddenly be absent from our lives. Please be encouraged to call or visit with a loved one, and acknowledge your love, especially for those getting on in years.

A graveside service for Odda will be held Sunday, June 5th at Noon. Family and friends are welcome to meet in the funeral home at 11am prior to the service.
