Susan was born on May 7, 1963 at Fort Kobbe, Canal Zone to Mary P. and SSGT Floyd J. Stricklett, JR. She was 8th in birth order. Upon retiring from the military, her family moved to Olympia, Washington. When she became old enough, Susan attended John Rogers Elementary School for kindergarten then St. Michael’s Catholic School for grades 1 through 8. While attending St. Michael’s, she began to build character and skills that would form who she became as an adult. She participated in basketball, volleyball, and track, performed in school performances like The Sound of Music, Bye, Bye Birdie, and in the many annual school-wide Christmas Pageants.
Susan then attended Capital High School where she continued her sporting interests, established many friendships and she gained her first job at Westside McDonalds. After high school, she continued with her love of softball and played for years at left-centerfield position. She played year after year with many of the same players, travelling around the state participating in tournaments. The drive to always be her best at her position eventually lead to the deterioration of her left shoulder which ended her softball career. Another love Susan had was for dogs- two in particular. First, she there was Sarge who was a German shepherd mix. After a few years, she got another dog, this time a chow mix names Jasmine. Jasmine and Sarge were her “children” and they got along wonderfully. They provided her with companionship and unconditional love like only a dog could.
In her early 30’s, Susan made a career change and began working in the distribution center as a mail processing clerk for the US Post Office. Susan received numerous awards and letters of recognition for her hard work and dedicated service at the post office. She continued in this position until she retired in 2015 due to health issues.
Susan is survived by her brothers Michael, and John, her sister Denise, her brother Terrance, her sister Marianne and her brothers Christopher and Timothy. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard.
A memorial celebrating Susan’s life will be held on March 25 at the South Bay Grange located at 3918 Sleater-Kinney Road NE from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Come and share stories, memories about her life with others.
