

Tom served in the Army until 1968 as a Specialist Fifth Class. While enlisted he was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wa and Fort Knox, Ky and served one tour in Vietnam. Later he moved his family to Rochester, Wa.
Throughout his life he worked as a chef and later he attended Clover Park Technical College and obtained a degree to work as a Financial Loan Officer.
Tom was a true family man who enjoyed hunting with his hounds, fishing, camping, gardening, and cooking. He is also fondly remembered as a wonderful dancer and a fantastic singer.
He is survived by his brothers; Thomas and Laura Hayes, Cheyenne, Wy; Edison and Georgia Hayes, Hampton, Va; Charles and Peggy Hayes, Yorktown, Va; and Mike and Gesa Hayes, Hampton, Va. He has four children; Lisa Hayes of Lacey, Thomas and Chris Hayes of Lacey, Tina Johnson (Chris Peterson) of Tenino, and Valerie ‘Dick’ Pender of Lacey. He has a brother-in-law, Larry Schmidt, of Tenino. He was divorced in 1980 from Evelyn ‘Sue’ Lewis of Tenino however they remained life long friends. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Nieces, and 4 Nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at 3:00pm at Mills & Mills in Tumwater. A pot-luck will follow at the Violet Prairie Grange in Tenino.
