Adelaide B. Goncalves

Mrs. Adelaide B. Gonçalves, age 95 “Entered into Rest” on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at her Niece’s residence in Modesto. She was born in Ingomar, California and has lived in Modesto for 14 years. At a young age, her and her family moved to Terceira, Azores where she met her late husband Jose Barcelos Gonçalves and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1985. She loved to knit, sew and had a great sense of humor. Mrs. Gonçalves is survived by her caregiver, goddaughter and niece Maria Vieira and her husband John of Modesto; Niece – Cecilia Swickard and her husband Ray of Modesto; Godson and Nephew – Joe Mendes of Idaho; Niece – Zelia Vieira and her husband Henry of Riverside; Niece – Amy Mendes of Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 great nieces and nephews.

Services: Visitation – Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main St., Turlock. Combined – Funeral Mass and Rosary on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Rd., Modesto. Interment following the Funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, 1141 Secenic Drive, Modesto, CA. Preceded in death by nephew Jack Mendes.
