June 5, 1954 – June 25, 2015
Debbie Luiz, 61, died peacefully June 25th at her home in Hilmar.
Born in Newman, she grew up in various parts of the state and graduated from high school in Chino. She had lived in Hilmar for 33 years, 27 of which she spent as caretaker of the Dan Ramos Community Center. She also worked in food services for Bagel Junction in Turlock and Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale.
An avid reader, Ms. Luiz was a fan of J.D. Robb mysteries. Her other hobby was taking road trips; Monterey and Pismo Beach were her favorite destinations. She spent most of her final days with her precious cousin, Tiffany Antunez of Hilmar, and her four sons — all of whom were as beloved to her as her own grandchildren.
Other survivors include her daughter, Tonya Kubo (Brian) of Merced; brother, John Luiz III (Sandy) of Modesto; sisters, Lorraine Cardoza (Thom) of Modesto and Mary McNulty of Elk Grove; granddaughters, Lily and Abigail Kubo of Merced; seven nieces and two nephews; and her dearest friends, Giselle Reis of Snelling and Virginia Souza of Gustine.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Luiz (2010); parents, John Luiz Jr. (1986) and Frances (Gonsalves) Luiz (1972).
A Celebration of Life will be held July 9th. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Home, 286 W. Main St., Turlock, 95380. A reception will follow at the community center, 20079 Falke St., in Hilmar.
