Modesto, CA – Jerry Moon passed away peacefully at age 84 in Modesto, California. Jerry was born in Modesto to Richard Moon and Edith (Whisler) Moon of Waterford, CA, the eldest of four children. While growing up in Waterford, Jerry attended Oakdale High School, graduating in 1958. After high school, Jerry moved to Reno, NV and began a career in the retail grocery industry. During his time in Reno, he met and married his wife, Patricia (Mulgrew), in Minden, NV in 1960. Shortly after marrying, Jerry moved to Modesto where he resided until his recent passing.
Jerry spent the entirety of his professional career in the retail grocery industry, working for Save Mart Supermarkets and Food 4 Less. He was a dedicated employee and worked his way up the ranks. After retirement, Jerry worked part-time at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home where he was able to use his admired traits of kindness and empathy to assist others in their time of need.
Jerry was a dedicated and active member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed travel, especially local adventures, golf, attending live theater productions, home handyman projects, and had a passion for cars, especially old hot rods. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jerry’s pleasing personality, humor, kindness, and an enduring optimistic life view will be missed by all that knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Edith Moon, and his sister, Kathryn Moon. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Moon of Modesto, CA, his sister Judi Rackley of Modesto, CA, his sister Denise (Rodney) Van Norman of Gardnerville, NV, his son, Gregory (Deborah) Moon of Las Vegas, NV, his daughter Michele (Kenneth) Katz of Modesto, CA, his son Michael (Lisa) Moon of San Marcos, CA, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
