Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Isabel Fontes Silveira, returned to her heavenly home on September 5 at age 88. During her later life she resided in Hughson. She passed away at her eldest daughter’s home on Sunday, September 5, 2021, surrounded by loving family in her final hours.
Isabel is survived by her daughters; Phyllis Fatima Camboia (David) of Hughson; Isabel Silveira Pierce (Steve) of Turlock, Maria Fatima Doman (Robert) of Utah and Laurette Georgina Eslinger (Brent) of Utah. Isabel is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Isabel was born on May 10, 1933, on the beautiful island of Sao Jorge, Acores to Isabel Silveira Alves and Jose Machado Fontes. Isabel was preceded in death by her spouse, Tiberio Faustino Silveira; her son Joe Faustino Silveira; her brothers; Francisco Fontes who passed away at a few months of age in Sao Jorge, the next boy was born and was also named Francisco Fontes in memory of his brother, Jose Fontes, Antonio Fontes, Manuel Fontes, Joao Fontes, Jorge Fontes, Serafim Fontes, Faustino Fontes, her sisters; Maria Soares, Rosa Castelho, Deolinda Sousa, Rita Couto, Serafina Brasil, and Teresa Fontes was Faustino’s twin and she passed away at 6 months of age.
Isabel had a keen mind, loved learning, and was a schoolteacher in her youth. She traveled to Angola, Africa where she taught school, married her sweetheart Tiberio, and started her family. She was a spry, energetic, intelligent woman who loved animals, reading, plants, cooking and sharing her mouthwatering dishes, and was a devout and faithful Catholic. She had a genuine goodness and gentleness about her. Isabel made an indelible mark on her family and friends. We are all better people for having had her kind and loving influence in our lives.
A funeral mass for Isabel will be held Friday, September 24, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 South Walnut Road, Turlock, CA 95380. (We kindly ask that COVID-19 Protocols are followed and masks are worn for those who attend the funeral service.)
Following the funeral mass, a committal service will take place at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 North Soderquist Road, Turlock, CA 95380.
