John Edward Barros, age 71, of Stevinson, California passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022. He was born February 17, 1951 in Merced, California to Mary Eleanor Dias and Manuel Francis Barros. John was raised in Stevinson, CA, the second child of three boys. As a child he was a member of the local 4H chapter and attended schools in Stevinson and Hilmar, CA.
John had dreams of being a hard-working family man, so at 16 he left school to work full-time. First, he took a job as a farm hand on a local dairy. He immediately stood out to the owner who offered him the opportunity to take on the responsibility of a leadership position at just 16. Instead, John decided to take a job at Patchett's working on the showroom floor. This proved to be a job he greatly enjoyed as it allowed him to drive and work closely with cars, one of his life-long passions. Following his time in this role, he spent time working for Punky Souza. After this, he decided to get his Class A license and took a job with Hatch milling company where he worked with his brother George Barros. He went on to work in the trucking industry for over 50 years in various roles.
John married his high school sweetheart, Rannae, in Reno on February 21, 1970. Rannae and John spent 46 loving years together and raised a family of 4 children: John, Michael, Richard, and Aimee. They spent their entire married life in the Turlock and Hilmar-Stevinson area. John and Rannae moved to Stevinson in 2004, putting a home on the ranch where John grew up, a home where John would begin his retirement in 2016.
John was a loving father, Poppers, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. We will remember him for his work ethic, car and motorcycle enthusiasm, and love of rock and roll music.
John is survived by: his son John Edward Barros Jr. (Eileen); his son Richard Lee Barros (Lucy); and his son Michael Douglas Barros (Wendy); his brother Manuel Barros (Sandy); his grandchildren Dr. Alicia Eileen Barros Souza (Bryan), John Edward Barros III (Bailie), Caressa Lannae Barros, Justin Alexander Barros, Michael James Barros, Kyla Rannae Barros, his great grandchildren Henley Jaxon and Eloise Mae Barros Souza.
John was preceded in death by his wife Rannae Eileen Barros; his daughter Aimee Leanne Barros; his father Manuel Francis Barros; his mother Mary Eleanor Dias; and his brother George Barros.
Services for John Edward Barros are in the care of Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service (FD 504) in Turlock, California. A graveside service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Stevinson CA, on Friday April 22, 2022 at 2 PM.
