Years ago Virgil and Jeanette were our sponsors when we joined the Methodist church in Simi Valley. They both were so gracious to us in the years we attended that church. RIP Virgil. 

I can’t start this memory by saying Virgil, I never called him that.  His youngest daughter, Kathleen and I were best friends for as long as I can remember and growing up she would be at my house or I would be at hers.  It was my second home and so this wonderful man was my second Dad.  That is what I always called him .  He was Dad Stites.  I love him and am so grateful for the role model that he was for me.  No one could ask for a better person to guide them and show them how to be a responsible, kind and respectful person.  I will miss him and will always love Dad Stites.

Virgil has been a close friend for almost forty years. Never in that time did I ever see him show anger, disrespect anyone, say no when he was asked to help others. He loved to share his faith with anyone, anytime. He loved his family more than you can imagine. I can't help but smile when we are at church and I periodically doze off during the sermon. Carolyn would  gently elbow me and tell me to wake up. That always made me think of Virgil nodding off during the sermon. We were so fortunate to have Virg in our life.  He was the best.
