Arnold Thomas Sowell, age 96, of Cottondale, died Jan. 13, 2012, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Sowell, and by his second wife, Myrtle Sowell.
Survivors include his daughter, Peggy Starkie of Cottondale; brother, Lloyd Sowell of Athens; grandchild, Howard Dennis Robertson of Berry; great-grandchildren, Troy Smith, Phillip Robertson, Scott Ragland, and Matthew Ragland; great-great-grandchildren, Nathan Ragland, Natalie Grace Ragland, Justin Smith, and Whitney Smith; and great-great-great-grandchild, Bryson Smith.
He was a World War II veteran and retired from the VA Hospital. He was a member of Cottondale Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Amedisys Home Care and Amedisys Hospice, special caregiver Pam Neville, Debbie Parton, Clayton Parton, Susie and Carol.
