Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Allen C. Lawley and Frances Lorene Lawley; siblings, Margaret Frances Lawley, Sue Fendley, and Allen Junior “Bubba” Lawley; and son, Terry Bridges.
She is survived by her husband, Wilburn Raiford Bridges; son, Jeffrey Allen Bridges (Diane); daughter, Donna Joyce Bridges Pierce (Mickey); grandchildren, Josh (Melanie), Todd (Jessica), Maegan (Michael), and Brandon; and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty was the oldest of four, helping take care of her younger siblings and working hard in school. She was a majorette in high school, with a smile that lit up a room. She married her sweetheart, Raiford, in their teenage years, and was most proud of her role as a wife and mother. She took great joy in creating a home for her three children. Betty enjoyed working at McGraw Activity Center for several years, as well as serving in her church. Betty was humble in the way she lived her life and thoughtful in the words she shared, spending more time than most of us would in the little details, just to make people feel special. Her family and friends will miss her sweet spirit, laugh, and home cooked food, but most of all will miss how she never hurried to finish a conversation, always taking time to talk to anyone who needed a friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who are resting in the knowledge that she is in her heavenly home with Jesus, as her hope was in Him.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Circlewood Baptist Church and a host of family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Circlewood Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in Memory Hill Gardens with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.
