
Betty Hughes Palmer of Northport died Oct. 27, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the mausoleum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Palmer, Sr.; parents, L.B. and Bama Hughes; brother, L.B. Hughes, Jr.; and sisters, Sarah Drummond and Dot Cunningham.
Survivors include her sons, Philip Palmer (Deborah) of Northport and Joe Palmer (Denise) of Dallas, Texas; sister, Shirley Colburn (Clyde) of Tuscaloosa; brothers, James Hughes (Louise) and Ray Hughes, all of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Phylicia Palmer, Patrick Palmer, Bobby Jagoe (Stacie), and Carolina Polydoro Stovall (Alex); and great-grandchild, Avram Jagoe.
Betty was an avid Alabama football fan and loved music, but her best devotion along with her family was her pets. Betty treated all of her many animal friends with much love and care. Reading her Bible was first and foremost at the start of each day.
Special friends include Delilah Nuckols, J.W. and Brenda Shewmake, Billy and Dot Watkins, and other neighbors as well as former co-workers throughout her working career.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of West Alabama in her honor.
