

Mrs. Betty Zien was born in September 30, 1918 in Sichuan, China. She graduated from Chengdu Normal College, a teacher’s school, in 1939. In September 1940, she was married to Dr. Shih Cheng Zien. Her brother Chuck Chow was the match maker. In 1941, she gave birth to her first daughter June, and two years later, her son Linn was born in Kweilin. A second daughter, Wanda was born in 1947 in Sichuan. In 1949, she and her family moved to Taiwan with the Nationalist government.
For the first five years in Taiwan she lived in a village, Taichung with other Nationalist Air Force officers. She taught elementary school there. Then she moved to Tainan and lived there for eight more years. Her husband was a professor at Cheng Kong University. She taught Chinese at the Tainan Second Boys’ Middle School.
In 1962, Betty immigrated to US to join her husband at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he was a professor at the University of Alabama. From Year 1962 to 2008, Betty lived at 257 Cedar Crest Street, Tuscloosa for 46 years. In 2005, Betty accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior, went to church regularly, and joined Bible study groups.
In 2008, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama to live with June after the passing of her husband. Her 64 year of marriage to Shih Cheng Zien had been sweet and lovely. Then she moved to live with Wanda in Sunnyvale, CA and then moved to Los Angles to live with her son, Linn. On October 27, 2019, one month after celebrating her 101th birthday, Betty went to be with the Lord peacefully at Linn’s home in Westlake Village, CA.
Betty is blessed with three children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
