Carolyn was a loving wife and mother, as well as a devoted friend. She wanted her epitaph to read: “She hath done what she could.” She was tirelessly committed to the Tuscaloosa community, and especially to its children and young people. For over 20 years she sat on the steering committee for Kentuck, where she ran the Kentuck for Kids component of the Festival. She also sat on the Boys and Girls Club Board, the Adopt-A-School Steering Committee, the Children's Hands-On Museum Board, and the Friends of the University of Alabama Arboretum Board. She has been named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts, Sustainer of the Year for Junior League Tuscaloosa, Volunteer of the Year as an Active Member of Junior League Tuscaloosa, and Grand Marshal of the Christmas Parade. She served on the PTAs of Verner, Westlawn, Tuscaloosa Middle School, Eastwood Middle School, Central High School West, Central High School East, and was even once PTA President with no child attending the Tuscaloosa City Schools. She played a committed role in the Junior League of Tuscaloosa (Past President), the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce (Past President), Christ Church Episcopal Church Women (Past President), Masquers Mardi Gras Club (Past President), the Alliance to the Medical Association for the State of Alabama (Treasurer), RISE, PRIDE (Parents' Resource Institute for Drug Education), Juvenile Court Advisory Board, the West Alabama Soccer Association, the Tuscaloosa Soup Kitchen, Leadership Tuscaloosa, Forerunners, and the Tuscaloosa County Medical Alliance (Past President). She was also involved with Alberta Elementary School and the Doctors' Day 10K Run (which she originated).
Carolyn was a humble, dedicated, selfless, tireless, community-focused, and forward-thinking individual who loved this community and gave thousands of hours of community service to make this life a little better for so many people.
