Charles Flanner Ballard

TUSCALOOSA – Charles F. Ballard, age 85, passed away July 2, 2022 at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. John Jenkins and Gary Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his son, Charles F. Ballard, Jr.; parents, Willie and Naomi Ballard; brothers, Willie R. “Billy” Ballard and Albert Dudley Ballard; sister, Emily Carolyn Swanson; and grandson, Lucas Bryan Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Ballard; daughters, Lydia A. Fields (Danny), Debbie Elkins (Greg), Melinda Phillips (Tim), and Anita Clark (Randall); sons, Richard “Rick” Taylor (Angie); brother, David K. Ballard (Jean); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles was born in Fosters, Alabama on January 31, 1937 to Willie and Naomi Ballard. After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School he worked for Gulf States Paper Corporation and then went to work at the Tuscaloosa Fire Department. He retired from the Tuscaloosa Fire Department after 27 ½ years. Charles was a loyal fan of The University of Alabama athletic program and attended numerous events. Charles and Carol enjoyed years of travel with Bama Sams Camping Club where they made lifelong friends. Charles was a member of Northport Baptist Church and loved his church family. Charles loved Carol and his family.

Pallbearers will be Chase Thompson, Colby Thompson, Josh Jones, Michael Ballard, Eric Swanson, and Chris Ballard.

Honorary pallbearers are Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Members, Carl Wilson Sunday School Class, and Bama Sams Camping Club.
