Doris "Penny" Fondren, age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 14, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Wes Fondren, Rev. Freddy Williams, and Gene Fondren officiating, and music provided by Steven Fondren. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Fondren; grandchildren, Teresa, Timothy, and Christopher Fondren; parents, B. E. and Gladys Norman; and five sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Pat Carson (Ed), Carol Oswalt (David), and Nancy Walker (Billy); sons, Gene Fondren (Vicki), Frank Fondren (Julie), and Randy Fondren (Peggy); stepsons, Mac Fondren (Patsy), Jerry Fondren (Patricia), and J.L. Fondren (Peggy); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy Walker, Brian Fondren, Jason Fondren, Jeremy Staggs, Randall Fondren, and Steven Fondren.
Honorary pallbearers are staff of Morning Pointe (The Lantern), staff of Hospice of West Alabama, friends from Woodhaven Church of the Nazarene, Nelda and Steve Lawrence, Lenny and Angela Fulmer, and Carol Sue Nix.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
