

Dorothy H. Pierson, called Dot by many, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, died Jan. 31, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Boyles officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Other Pierson, and her son, Malcolm Pierson.Survivors include her son, Larry Pierson, a grandson, Scot Pierson, a granddaughter, Evan Parrish, and three great-grandchildren, River, Pierson (Reed) and Rush Parrish.Dorothy Hewitt Pierson lived most of her life in the Holt community and attended Holt Baptist Church. She lived the last 6 years at the Knoll at Pine Valley Retirement Community where she received the best of care. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a "career woman" where she balanced her food service career of 30 years with that of being an involved mother and wife. She was dietician for the UA Athletic Department from 1964 until her retirement in 1985. She always felt an intricate part of the football team's success and very graciously shared some of the credit with Coach Bryant. She loved annual trips to "the Smokies" with her family and trips to Pensacola. Pallbearers will be nephews John Hewitt, Jerry Hewitt, Richard Hewitt, Jack Williams, Bill Gates, Otha Belcher, and Brian Baker.Honorary pallbearers are members of the Holt Baptist Church, friends of the Holt community, and staff and friends of the Pine Valley Retirement Community.While mother loved flowers, particularly during her later years, she would want a more lasting tribute.
