

TUSCALOOSA – Dorothy Elaine (Embry) Richardson, age 90, passed away with her son by her side, Sunday morning, August 14, 2016. Graveside services will be held at Central Cemetery near Emelle, Ala., on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 16 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home with Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Richardson, her parents, Ben and Clara Embry, a brother, and sister, Tom Cullen Embry and Doan Forman. Elaine is survived by her son, Rick Richardson of Houston, Texas; and her brother, Steve Embry a resident of Sylacauga, Ala. Born and raised on a farm near Equality, Ala., Elaine was a hard worker where she milked cows and tended crops. There were many aunts, uncles and cousins. Attending school in Rockford, Ala., she graduated from Coosa County High School in 1944. Always a naturally friendly and outgoing person, Elaine would strike up conversations with anyone within distance. Upon graduation she moved to Montgomery, Ala., working first for the phone company, then for the Montgomery Fair Department store. While there in 1948, a friend introduced her to Walt. Three months later they married and were together for almost 51 years. As a young couple they moved around the southeast to many towns with Walt's job for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Elaine's favorite posting was anywhere near the beach. A son, Rick, was born in 1953. In 1960, the family moved to Tuscaloosa. In Tuscaloosa, Elaine has been a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was a Cub Scout Den mother and regularly involved with Rick's friends and activities providing help and transportation. In the latter half of the 1960's, Elaine went to work for Raymon's Department Store, downtown. She continued her employment until the last store closed in the 1990's.She was a kind, caring neighbor, beloved by all, including the children and pets.
