

Evelyn Moseley Stephens, age 86, died on January 13th at her home surrounded by her beloved family. Services will be held Thursday, January 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with visitation one hour beforehand. A private graveside service for family will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.
Preceding her in death were George H. Stephens, Jr., her husband of 49 years and her son, George H. Stephens III.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Evelyn Stephens Bogert (Scott), Maryville, Tennessee; her sons Bruce Edward Stephens (Ellen) and Stuart Ray Stephens, both of Tuscaloosa, daughter-in-law, Sheila Cabaniss (Ralph), Northport, AL; her granddaughters Kristy Sue Stephens (Marvin McClain) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Jaden Elise Bogert, of Maryville, Tennessee; her grandsons, Joshua Bruce Stephens of Tampa, Florida; R. Jeremy Stephens (Carroll) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; George Chadwick Stephens (Lindy) of Tuscaloosa; and Nicholas Gabriel Bogert, of Maryville, Tennessee; four great-granddaughters, twins Morgan Louise Stephens and Reese Catherine Stephens, Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Allie Carver Stephens of Tuscaloosa and Raeni Rylee McClain, Fayetteville, NC; great-grandson George Rawson Stephens of Tuscaloosa, AL; one sister, Bettye Jo Howton (Jack) of West Blockton, Alabama; brothers L. Harold Moseley, Tuscaloosa and Jerry Edward Moseley (Faye), Northport; and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stephens was born in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama to the late Edward Wesley Moseley and Aline Watson Moseley. Her family moved to Prattville, Alabama in the early forties where she spent her elementary school years, and to Tuscaloosa in 1951, where she lived and loved her homes in the Tuscaloosa-Northport-Cottondale areas.
Her professional career spanned 40 years in administrative and managerial positions, which included seventeen years with The Morrow Companies, where she retired as Property Manager over a multitude of apartment complexes located throughout the state and southeast. She earned certification from the National Farmers Home Administration as a qualified Occupancy Specialist.
She also spent time working as a teacher substitute/or para-professional within the Tuscaloosa City and County systems, and at Holy Spirit Elementary School, where former students claimed a place in her heart.
She was civic minded and among her twenty years in PTA (Parent Teachers Association) she served at local, state, and national levels, serving as State PTA president 1977-79 and as the Regional Vice-President of the 7-state southeastern region of National PTA 1980-1982, all leadership roles which she enjoyed, always with the full support of husband, George.
However, the roles of wife, mother and homemaker, grandmother, great-grandmother were her favorite roles.
Honors for her community and work- related involvement throughout the years include Tuscaloosa Jayceettes’ One of Four Distinguished Young Women of Alabama 1974; BPW District woman of Achievement 1979; Life Memberships in State PTAs of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and the National PTA. She was chosen one of four National PTA board members as a representative in 1978 to visit throughout Japan for three weeks, touring prefectures and facilities from Tokyo to Nagasaki and points between, meeting with school officials and other prefectural leaders, which exchange was sponsored by the Japan-United States Commission.
Focus on Senior Citizens was one of her interests in later years, and in 2007 through her involvement with Focus was named Mrs. Senior Tuscaloosa for that year.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons, R. Jeremy Stephens, George Chadwick Stephens, Joshua Bruce Stephens, Nicholas Gabriel Bogert, Son-in Law, Scott Bogert and family friend Ralph Cabaniss. Honorary Pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Jenny Martin (Hospice); David Morrow; Class of 1955 Tuscaloosa County High School; Class of 1956 Tuscaloosa High School; members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church; former and current officers of Windsong South Homeowners’ Association; and other neighbors of Windsong South, her beloved home community.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Hospice of West Alabama are appreciated.
