A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 1st at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with the Rev. James Elliott officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, A Dignity Memorial Provider directing.
Her husband, Ousley Preston Strickland, and her sisters, Nell Elliott, Ruth Montgomery, Margaret Warbington and Joan Bobo preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sister June Sullivan, daughter, Carol S. Ingram (John), son, Kenneth P. Strickland (Becky), grandchildren, Neal Ingram, James Ingram, Kendal Strickland, Katherine Strickland, eight great-grandchildren and 3 great-great granddaughters.
Mrs. Strickland was born in Fayette, Alabama on March 6, 1921, the second of six daughters, to Jesse Melton Bobo and Zula Weathers Bobo. She grew up in Brownville, Alabama and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked for a time at the Brownsville Post Office with her aunt, Mrs. Madie Ellis, Postmistress. In December, 1941 she married Preston Strickland and became a homemaker. After his service in the Army Air Corps during WWII, the couple moved to Tuscaloosa, where he was employed by the Tuscaloosa Fire Department for 27 years.
Mrs. Strickland was a member of Hargrove Memorial United Methodist Church for many years, and later, a member of First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa. A lifelong homemaker, she delighted in her grandchildren and enjoyed sharing the fruits of their garden and kitchen with family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
