TUSCALOOSA - Joe Alan Wright, age 53, of Tuscaloosa, died October 31, 2016, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Lou Ann Sellers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, Mississippi. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is directing.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Herman and Frances Wright; maternal grandparents, Leslie and Mittie Camp; and mother-in-law, Willie Jean Luther.
Survivors include wife, Donna Luther Wright of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Alexandra Diane Wright; son, Benjamin Luther Wright; sister, Melanie Anne Kerr (husband John Kerr, Meghan and J.T.); sister-in-law, DeAnn Luther (Brittney Koelling, Brianna Waggoner and Will Waggoner); parents, Joe Ross and Patsy Wright; and father-in-law, William D. "Bill" Luther.
Joe was born in Oxford, Mississippi. He lived his early years in Water Valley, Mississippi. After a brief time at the "School up North," Joe became a MSU Bulldog, graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry and a MBA in Business. He was a fan of all things maroon and white and was particularly thrilled when his MSU Bulldogs were #1 in the football polls in 2014. His hobbies also included reading and collecting Marvel comic books, watching Dak Prescott play for the Cowboys, video games and extreme couponing.
He gave up smoking years ago, but was thankfully carrying a lighter New Year's Eve 1988, when his future wife Donna was looking for hers. He lit her cigarette and the rest was history. He got only two of the children his mother wished on him, Benjamin and Alexander. And he loved them all until he went to go hang out with family and friends who were already on the other side of the Pearly Gates. Godspeed and Hail State.
