

It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the passing of J. Wayne Pugh on the morning of August 11, 2024 at his home in Birmingham, Alabama. Wayne was born on January 9, 1941, in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Majorie Pugh, his brothers, Robert and Billy Pugh, his sister, Doris Bynum and his son, Kevin Pugh. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Pugh and his sons, Mike (Janet) Cheatham of Clanton, AL and Mark (Catherine) Pugh of Mountain Brook, AL and his sister, Carol Hallmark of Wetumpka, AL. Additionally, he is survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Wayne attended and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1960. He graduated from Auburn University with a BA in Art in 1964. Upon graduation, he moved to Birmingham and went to work for Alabama Power. He retired after a successful 30 year career with Alabama Power as a Director in the Corporate Communications Department.
Wayne loved the outdoors, spending time fishing and hunting. He also was a very talented artist and loved painting in his free time. On Saturdays in the Fall, he loved watching and cheering on the Auburn Tigers.
A visitation will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland E Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 at 12:00pm on Friday, August 16th. There will be a memorial service following the visitation at 1:00 PM.
