
Lois Prewitt Montgomery, age 91, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 9, 2010, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Montgomery; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tolly Prewitt; her sister, Ruth Sherrill; her brothers, Woodrow, Davis, Frank, and John Howard Prewitt; and her sons-in-law, Frank Cain and Joe Barton.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Cain, JoAnn Montgomery, and Charlotte Barton; her son, Gordon Montgomery (Retana); her sisters, Dot Burroughs (Otis) and Laura Hollingshead; her brother-in-law, O.L. “Shot” Sherrill; her sister-in-law, Winnie B. Montgomery; her grandchildren, Lisa Miller, Wendy Lollar, Mike Montgomery (Debbie), Terry Montgomery (Mary), Susan Daniel (Jeff), Scott Barton (Monica), Brandy Walker (Jason), and Lynsey Dill (J.P.); four great-granddaughters; and ten great-grandsons.
She was known as Mema to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She loved working in her yard with her flowers. She was a huge Alabama football and basketball fan. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Mike Montgomery, Terry Montgomery, Scott Barton, Chuck Hollingshead, John Hollingshead, Jason Walker, Jeff Daniel, and James Paul Dill.
Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama and caregivers Arlecia Clark, Gloria Hamner, Amy Green, Caroly Ford, Virginia Herrod, Corine Hughes, Amedisys, and Candice Robertson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, Five Points Baptist Church, and Amedisys.
