Lucy Veturia Rutledge Patrick of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 95. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2025, at Grace Presbyterian Church at 2 PM. The Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Lucy was born February 27, 1930, to late Robert and Orene Rutledge in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Ensley High School, and after graduating, she went on to attend Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Laboratory Technology.
Following her graduation, she returned to Birmingham and began her career at Lloyd Noland Hospital, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Dr. Killough Henry (Pat) Patrick, who was completing his residency at the time. The couple moved to Tuscaloosa in 1954, where they established a thriving private practice that served the community for 34 years. In 1958, they created a loving home on Forest Lake, nurturing a vibrant family of four boys and one girl: Killough H. Patrick III (deceased), Thomas Patrick of Lugano, Switzerland; Robert Arthur Patrick of Huntsville, AL; Barbara Ann Patrick of Tuscaloosa; and Joseph Edgar Patrick of Tuscaloosa.
Throughout her life, Lucy embraced a range of interests and hobbies. Her love for travel, tennis, entertaining friends, reading novels, and playing bridge was rivaled only by her greatest joy—spending time with her children and grandchildren. A devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished her family deeply, which included nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lucy's legacy will live on through her grandchildren, who carry forward the warmth, love, and values she instilled in them. They will remember her vibrant spirit, her love for family, and her unwavering support. Lucy's spirit of service shone through in her commitment to her community, exemplified by her long-standing membership at Covenant Presbyterian Church (now Grace Presbyterian), where she inspired many until her last days.
Lucy was preceded in death by her Parents, Robert Edgar Rutledge and Orene Margarite Rutledge; her husband, Killough Henry Patrick Jr.; her brother, Robert Edgar Rutledge Jr.; her sister, Barbara Lancaster; her brother-in-law, Joseph Lancaster; and her oldest son, Killough H. Patrick III (Rick). She is survived by her remaining children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
