Born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Sarah and Cooper Norris
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry.
She is survived by her sister, Sarah Turberville. Her daughters: Angela Thomas Smith (George), Tammy Thomas Silverman, Melanie Thomas Comer (Alan); sons: Gerald Jason Thomas and James Robert Thomas (Taylor); grandchildren: George Lanier Smith, Jr, Thomas Charles Smith, Cooper Coleman Smith, Jack Thomas Silverman, Joshua Robert Silverman, Nolan Alan Comer, Marianne Margaret Comer, James Andrew Comer, and Mary Maecle Thomas.
Marianne was a graduate of the University of Alabama but was never quite able to yell “Roll Tide”. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over fifty years, serving in many capacities. She loved a beautifully wrapped gift, music of all kinds, and could play anything she heard by ear on the piano. She loved and surrounded herself with flowers.
She was a loving, faithful wife and mother. She adored her puppies and her children and will be forever greatly missed. She was larger than life in every sense of the word and never really acted her age or let on quite how badly she felt even in struggling with Leukemia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Dr Gill McKee officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the church. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Memory Hill Gardens.
Our deepest appreciation to Chris Killian and his “staff of Angels” at Home Instead. A very special thank you to Rosie Bryant and her daughter, Samantha, who were a constant source of love and support.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to “Harrison School of Pharmacy – Marianne and Jerry Thomas Scholarship Fund, Walker Building 2316, Auburn, AL 36849 or charity of your choice.
