TUSCALOOSA – Mary Helen Maddox Terry, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died April 9, 2018, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Gil McKee officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas N. and Marie Thomas Maddox and her brother, William H. Maddox of Easley, S.C.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Campbell (Bill) of Northport, Ala.; sons, Erskine Steven Terry (Donna) of Decatur, Ala. and Mark Ramsey Terry (Debbie) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Jean Freeman of Easley, S.C.; grandchildren, Melissa McMurray (Daniel) of Calera, Ala., Adam Terry of Decatur, Ala., Jennifer Watson (Andrew) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Allison Perry (Jason) of Prattville, Ala., and Todd and Jessica Campbell of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Isla and Max McMurray and Nicholas and Caroline Perry.
Mary graduated from Walker County High School in Jasper and earned BS and Master's degrees from the University of Alabama. She served as a school librarian for 37 years with the Decatur and Tuscaloosa City Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa where she was active with Women on Mission, the church library, Triple L Adult program, and the International English classes and worked in the nursery for 20 years. She was also active and served as President of Gamma Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Chapter I of the P.E.O. sisterhood.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are Pine Valley Retirement Community, Triple L of First Baptist Church, P.E.O. and Delta Kappa Gamma.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Debra Davis for her loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bicentennial Mission Offering or Library Fund at First Baptist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
