Melvin Joseph Deslattes began his celebration rejoicing in heaven with his loving Savior on August 27, 2019. Always a loving husband, brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, a servant of God, a mentor, and a friend to many. With a love of God, family, friendship and work he always brought love, wit and humor wherever he went. Known lovingly to many as “Uncle Grumpy”.
He is preceded in death by his parents Claire and Lester; sisters, Dorothy Smalley, Lois Hoffmann, Marion Mae and Baby Girl Deslattes; and brothers, Lester Jr and Calvin Deslattes.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dot) Weber Deslattes, brother Huey Deslattes (Sue), brother-in-law Herman Weber and extended family members.
Tuesday, September 3, 2019, Rosary will be 5:30 pm followed by visitation from 6 pm to 8 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Wednesday, September 4, 2019, Mass will be 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Memory Hill Gardens.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Nelson Dowdle, Woodford Lesley, Knights of Columbus Council 4083, LLL Club, and the West End Group.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund, 733 James I Harrison Jr Parkway East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or charity of your choice
