Nellie Ruth Corder

Nellie Ruth Corder, age 86, of Cottondale, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on June 3, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Herron and Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman Corder; her precious grandson, Brian Cook; and her mother and father, Mollie and Frank Jones.

She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Ray and Donna Cook (Larry); her son, Lynn Corder (Melinda); her grandsons, Donnie Ray (Kim), Brock Corder (Amanda), and Blake Corder (Angel); her great-grandchildren, Trent, Abbey, Reagan, John Thomas, Cooper, Jackson, Patrick, and Addie, with one on the way; one brother; two sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was affectionately known as “Aunt Nell” to the many children who came and went to her home daily in the Cottondale community.

Pallbearers will be Larry Cook, Donnie Ray, Brock Corder, Blake Corder, Trent Ray, and Lynn Barger.

Honorary pallbearers are Rev. and Mrs. James Walker; Rev. and Mrs. Charles Herron; Mary Teer; Carol Parker; Frank Whitbeck; Amy Shirley and family; Virgie Brown and family; Elizabeth Rutledge; Trellie Smith; Alex Collier; Keith, Kevin, and Kristy Herron; Mike Morrison and family; Polly Elliot and family; Susan Meadows; Forest Manor administration and nursing staff; Hospice of West Alabama; employees of Crimson Properties, Corder Real Estate, and The Builders Group; and all of her many Cottonwood Park friends and neighbors.
