Born on March 10, 1945 in Reform, Ala., Patsy Ray lived in Del Rio, Texas; Isle of Palms and Charleston, South Carolina; and Andalusia, Alabama; but she spent most of her life in Tuscaloosa as an active member of Hargrove Memorial UMC, where she participated in the choir, directed the annual chili cook-off, and chaired the Administrative Council. Her great joys in life included her faith, her grandchildren, and Alabama football. Passionate about politics, she ran for the first Tuscaloosa City Council in 1985. She shared her various talents through volunteer work at her church and in her career, which included teaching kindergarten students, estimating tankheads at Dixie Steel, and assisting students with their finances at The University of Alabama's Office of Student Receivables. As the proud mother of sons involved in competitive sports, a great portion of her time was spent in ballparks and football stadiums, and she also loved reading books, especially enjoying those written by one of her children. Patsy will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her friends and family who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
