

Rondel "Smokey" Smith, age 89 of Brent, Alabama passed away on February 4, 2026 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with David Grisham officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Rondel was preceded in death by his parents, Luther C. and Thelma Smith; brothers, William C. Smith, James Smith; sisters, Anita Thigpen, Sara Beavers, Lavenia Channel, Dorothy Penton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty C. Smith; son, Gary Smith (Treva); daughters, Melinda Burnett, Sherri Martin (Marston); grandchildren, Joseph Burnett (Ashleigh), Cole Martin (Avery), Clay Martin, Mason Martin (Madison), Baylee Smith, Kelsey Dee Varallo; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Louse Albertson, Dessie McCord.
Smokey was raised in Tuscaloosa County and attended Tuscaloosa County High School. After he completed his stint in the Army, he attended Brewer State. He began his career with Armstrong Oil Company. He was the owner of Bama Carwash in Tuscaloosa. After he retired, he began farming. He sold vegetables at the Tuscaloosa and Northport Markets for 30 years. He was a deacon at Pondville Baptist Church. He loved his children, his wife, farming and fishing.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Burnett, Cole Martin, Clay Martin, Mason Martin, Marston Martin and Gordon "Butch" Gregory.
Honorary pallbearers are lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Gordon Gregory, Jackie Pendley, members of Pondville Baptist Church.
