

Roy Bryan Lamon died Friday May 5, 2017 at DCH Hospital. He was 91 years old, and was born in Decatur, Alabama, on July 19, l925. Funeral services will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral home on Skyland Boulevard at 11:00 AM, Monday May the 8th with Dr. Donald Payne, Pastor of Forest Lake Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday May 7th, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Washburn Lamon, four sisters: Evelyn Lamon, Katherine Lamon, Laurice Curry Shafer (Scott) and Jean Sanders (Gillman) and one brother, Howard Lamon (Louise), and niece Pat Sanders Free, all of Decatur, Alabama.
Roy grew up in Morgan County, Alabama, graduated from Austinville High School, and attended Athens College and the University of Alabama. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He worked for Alabama Power Company for 39 years, where he held several positions. He retired in l989 as Manager of the Human Resources Department, Western Division. During his working career he was active and held leadership positions in many community organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, State Treasurer of the Jaycees, Chairman of SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives), Tuscaloosa Exchange Club, the Civitian Club, and President of the Tuscaloosa Personnel Association. He had been a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church for 62 years where he served as Sunday School teacher, chairman of numerous committees, and served as a Deacon for the past 55 years. He was a long-time Boy Scout Master providing leadership to his own sons and many other young men.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Hicks Lamon. They met while in college, married in 1946, and walked hand in hand for the next 71 years. He is also survived by their four children: Michael (Lynda) Lamon, Steven (Gloria) Lamon, and Joy (Michael) Burroughs, of Tuscaloosa; and Dwain (Denise) Lamon of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and l4 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Kenneth Lamon, Chris Lamon, Montez Bell, David Pass, Dr. Lewis Cole, David Greene, David Dearman, Samuel Jaramillo, Neal Posey, and Daniel Chanko. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Jenny Pass, Robin Cole, Lindsey Greene, Mary Dearman, Katy Jaramillo, Britain Lamon, Lauren Posey, Kara Chanko, April Lamon, and Sheena Lamon. His great-grandchildren will also be honorary pallbearers: Liza Grace Cole, Ford Cole, Louise Cole, Vivian Posey, Carter Greene, Juniper Greene, Allie Jean Lamon, Steven Pass, Charlotte Pass, Magy Dearman, Rory Dearman, Joey Dearman, Nora Jaramillo, and Evan Jaramillo. The Deacons of Forest Lake Baptist Church and Alabama Power Company active employees and retirees will serve as additional honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the medical care given to Roy by Dr. Brian Wilhite, Dr. John Crew, Dr. George Mantle, Dr. Fabian Salinas, and the nursing staff at Druid City Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Forest Lake Baptist Church and Wings of Grace.
