TUSCALOOSA - Ruthie Hodge Pitts, age 90, born in Dothan, Ala., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, in Bessemer, Alabama. She was the wife of Rev. W.E. Pitts, Sr. for 70 years, and the mother of three children, William E. Pitts, II, Barbara Pitts Larkin and Charles A. Pitts; along with six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Pitts was a longtime educator in the Tuscaloosa City and County Schools at Verner Elementary School and Alberta Elementary School, a faithful member of the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society and a member of First African Baptist Church, Holly Spring Baptist Church and Elizabeth Baptist Church in the Tuscaloosa area for over 45 years.
The service will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd., Tuscaloosa, AL on Monday, December 17, 2018, at 12 noon with Rev. Vernon Swift, Pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
