
William Edward (Ed) Johnston, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, died December 11, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Herb Thomas and Dr. D. J. Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Johnston; mother, Nancy Johnston; brothers, J. C. Johnston, James Floyd (Buddy) Johnston, Cloud Elliott (Pete) Johnston; sister, Lorene Hartley; and daughter, Beth.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Laura Johnston; daughters, Linda Newman (Jim Faulkner), Gloria Horsley (Don), and Shirley Koster (Danny); sister, Carrie Bowman; brother, Tom Johnston; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
William Edward (Ed) Johnston went to be with his Savior on December 11, 2013. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he lived his life as a man of faith. He served as a deacon at Circlewood Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed singing in the choir, delivering sermon tapes to those unable to attend services and teaching young boys in Sunday school. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired after working at BF Goodrich for over 39 years.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Koster, Bradley Newman, Luke Smith, Brian Kern, Ricky Allgood, and Brad Hartsfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Circlewood Baptist Church Building Fund.
